OTTAWA, March 2 (Reuters) - At least three skiers have died in an avalanche near a mountain ski resort in British Columbia, a spokesperson said on Wednesday, and four others have been seriously injured, according to local media reports.

The avalanche occurred on Wednesday afternoon southwest of Invermere, British Columbia, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). A special avalanche warning for British Columbia issued last week remains in effect until Thursday.

The injured skiers were airlifted to local hospitals, CBC reported. The cause of the avalanche is under investigation.
